EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Prosper Akande author CANVAS OF REALITY

Find out more about this young entrepreneur!

Can we meet you?

Hello, My name is Prosper Akande, I'm from Africa, Nigeria. I was born among the 90s babies when true love was better defined (just saying). I'm a graduate from the University of Portharcourt. I am an opinionated person who speaks from the heart, I grew up in Edo state where Art and culture is deeply rooted. As a kid I was more of a melancholy and an introvert, that tittle I'm not sure I can still attach to my personality anymore but I'm still very much a calm person.

What do you do?

I am an entrepreneur, A writer, Ideas dispenser, a Poet, songwriter, music performer, event manager and a Business developer.

Tell us about your book?

"Canvas of Reality" as the name implies, is an expression, which depict life activities through a fusion of Art designs, storytelling, poetry, spoken words on note. It talks more about Racism, Religion, Love, Consistency, violence, culture, addiction and more, With a simple and comprehensive choice of words.

What inspires you to write?

everything around me does the magic. what I see, what i hear, places I go, what I want to create, the blueprint I want to leave behind. Basically Observation and practical examination of what is happening around me, the people I surround myself with and look upto.

Will you continue writing?

I'm very emotionally vested to my writing lifestyle. Our minds still needs to be wooed and blown away. I can't stop writing, everyday new things pops up , life goes on, new idea's get conceived, our society still has a lot of doctrines which causes limitations and blinds the minds. Racism still exists, diabolical culture which does not permit people to actualize their full potentials are still been practiced, wrong syndrome that needs urgent attention with practical solution is unending, Apart from our environment our minds still needs to be sanitized and put in order, people still need to be entertained by hearing or reading their own stories or what they can relate to and So on and so forth, the list is endless. I will definitely continue to write.

Are you writing anything else that we should be expecting from you?

I do, I have two project on hand that's currently a work in progress and I'm taking my time to perfect each piece. A fresh book coming soon with exciting creative contents and some short film scripts. Let me not go too deep with their details. The truth is “When you stumble upon something you don't expect to see, that’s when it’s most exciting". So let's keep our fingers cross and hope for the best.

What does family mean to you?

It means everything to me, Is Where Love starts and never ends, where there's abundant hope and joy, where we can spread our dirty clothes and not get killed, where we fight, laugh and dine. Where we support each other through good and bad times. Family is not just blood related, there are also Friends who turned family, they came into your life, saw how messed up you were, still sincerely loved you, stayed and never went away. My Family tree grows in my heart everyday with branches.

Your hobbies?

Travelling, writing, making music, Reading, playing "Table tennis, chess, video games", eating good Food.

What do think about cultural values in Nigeria?

Our cultural values in Nigeria is deteriorating and is more like no one is paying attention to it. We have almost lost everything as a result of us embracing the western culture. Starting from our dressing, we hardly patronize what's been "made in Nigeria" even when the quality is far better than what's been obtainable from outside the country. we condemn it and use the popular tag "Aba made" and this won't help our economy nor encourage the entrepreneurs who are investing their, knowledge, time and resource. You go to the bank here in Nigeria the only time they are allowed to put on native attires is Friday's. Cultural imperialism has affected our choice of food also. Our Languages are decaying, parents even prefer to speak pidgin English to their children. I will suggest we Africans not just Nigerians should try and look inward, appreciate what we have and also how to grow them, we should also lay more emphasis on our cultural values including morals, it should be a priority in the Educational system, Cultural carnivals that will foster unity amongst it's people should be organized, parent's should speak more of their native dialect to their children not just English, our Agricultural products and clothing should be promoted. I think we should start from that.

Do you think religion in Nigeria this days is all about money and politics?

I can't think of something like that, it all depends on your beliefs and how you see it. There's nothing new under the sun. These are the last day's when we should brace ourselves to see anything. false prophets and the rest of it shall arise but we all should be careful, watchful and also pray to God to right the wrongs in his vineyard.

You just graduated, what next?

Yeah! I have graduated from the University but personally, I don't think I can still use the word "just" that sound more like an excuse to escape the achievements I should be counting already. Life goes on, we don't graduate from that until we are dead. Talking about What's Next, to me is to continue to posses most of what I've learnt and discovered, indulge in self development as well as providing solutions that will bring success, unending happiness to myself, generation, my beloved country and creating more time for me to govern my space.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

In 5 years, I see God perfecting my dreams into reality, growing more of my innate gifts and evolving as an artist, an inspiration to many, structuring and restructuring businesses that will expand and be a global solution as well.

Role model?

Kendrick Lamar and Aliko Dangote

Favorite quote, author?
We end up living in a prison of our making. We may be insulated (we think) from being hurt, but we are also insulated from enjoying life and love as we should. _Joyce Meyer.
