What has it been like being a female lawyer?
I’m thankful to be a lawyer today, although I initially didn’t plan on it. I’ve always been a science person and dreamt of becoming a computer scientist. I guess God had a better plan for me as a legal practitioner 😄. My journey has had highs, lows, and moments somewhere in between.
Have you ever been underestimated or intimidated by male lawyers?
Honestly, both men and women have underestimated me, mostly because of my petite stature. Even 15 years post-call, I was still asked if I had attended Law School 🤣. People usually take me seriously only after seeing me in court or working professionally.
What was your growing-up experience like?
It was pretty interesting. Meeting different people and mixing with various cultures shaped my curiosity and outlook on life.
What has been your most challenging problem as a lawyer?
The biggest challenge has been people judging me based on my appearance and assuming I couldn’t handle their cases. Thankfully, I’ve never lost a case to date.
Have you ever regretted being a lawyer?
Yes, sometimes, when I witness unscrupulous dealings in society. It aches my soul to see people lie, cheat, or steal for wealth. But I believe integrity matters, and we really don’t need to compromise our values to succeed.
How do you describe a typical day?
My days are productively busy, but I always try to make work fun so it doesn’t feel endless.
How do you define success?
Success is being positioned to empower those around you. It comes from focus, consistency, determination, and smart work. Diversifying your income streams also aids success (Genesis 2:10).
What’s your favorite aspect of being a lawyer?
The daily opportunity to impact lives. That is priceless! 😁
Rape is a growing concern. What’s your solution?
Rape is now recurrent due to societal decadence. Some commit it for initiation, rituals, narcotics, or even bets. I believe the first step is strict legislation against convicted rapists—possibly even the death penalty—as a deterrent. Awareness about social media threats is also critical today.
What are the top three skills needed to succeed as a lawyer?
Commitment, strong research ability, and integrity.
Who or what inspires you?
God is my source of inspiration through the Bible. I also admire men and women genuinely helping the vulnerable.
Any part of your life you would alter if given the chance?
I might have delayed getting married.
Favorite meal and preparation?
Ekusu (corn pudding)—similar to moi moi but made from corn instead of beans. It’s delicious!
How do you relax outside work?
I travel, dance, sing, and enjoy creative arts. These activities help me unwind.
Advice for young graduates or aspiring professionals:
“Be who you would want to meet tomorrow. Be the daughter, son, spouse, or business partner you aspire to have. Integrity is priceless—never put a price tag on it.”
Thank you for sharing your story, Lilian. Your journey as a lawyer and entrepreneur is an inspiring lesson in resilience, integrity, and empowerment.

Let her keep doing what she knows how to do best. And who knows maybe her petite nature is her advantage because they won't take her seriously until she swings into action and she will have the upper hand when her opponents will be surprised.
