Emen Isong is a boss and a sister...
Who is Blessing Onwukwu Aka Sino?
Blessing onwukwe is just a simple Abia origin but portharcourt born and raised girl living in Lagos, doing what she loves with all her heart "acting" and making ends meet.
Tell us about that nick name Sino?
The nickname Sino came all the way from secondary school. My friends called me Blessino and later removed the bles😊 .
Who introduced you to acting?
Well I have always known that I would love to act. But in my year 3 I met Emem Isong at a dinner and we got talking. I told her I would like to act some day and she gave me her number. When I moved to Lagos and ready to act I called her up. She couldn't remember me though but she told me she was having an audition that I could come so I went. Got a role in my ever 1st movie “BURSTING OUT” by Emen Isong.
What made you resigned from a lucrative job and pursue a career in acting?
My love for Acting made me resign. I was not fulfilled in that job. I just wanted to act.
"BURSTING OUT"what was the experience like being your first time on a movie set?
Set of Bursting Out was a dream come true for me. I was so excited that I was sweating all through 😃😃😃😃. The camera guy asked why I was sweating so much in an exterior scene and my answer was "what do you expect? Am standing in front of Genevieve and Majid 😃😃. Genevieve asked it was my 1st time and I said yes. And what she said next was " 1st time and you are here? Then you are doing well. That meant a lot to me coming from Genevieve. I acted the role of a married lady, my husband and I arranged a valentine ball that Genevieve and Majid attended in the movie 😃
Emen Isong is a boss and a sister. She is just a blessing to this industry. The first person who saw me when I walked into this industry and believed in me and still does till today. She loves to discover new talents. Amazing lady!
What challenge(s) do you think the industry is facing and how can it be fixed?
Well the challenges the industry has I think is a Nigerian problem. The roads, light challenges and all. As the country gets better different industries in it will get better. The industry has done a lot and has grown a lot over the years compared to when I came in. Scripts are better, equipment’s are better, directing are better and all.
As an Igbo lady, what's unique about your culture and traditions?
We are just very strong traditional people am not though😜. The Igbo tribe is generally known for our drive. An Igbo person can make something great out of nothing.
Our native soup (okazi soup) with melon balls in it. The melon balls is what makes the difference. The melon will be grounded then later pounding in a mutter while that is going on onions, pepper and salt will be added to it and as being pounded till it turns to a paste kind of mixture but a hard one. It’s later molded into tiny balls and put in the soup. We just chew it alongside meat and fish in the soup. Simply Amazing. It’s actually called "ngbam" in my dialect.
Well I bury myself in every role I play but I think the last movie I did with Biodun Stephens...I cried all through. I was exhausted from crying. It was challenging but I loved it. That's another lady who believes in me. Love her a lot.
Aside being on almost all the sets in Nigeria, Lagos especially, what else do you do and how do you relax?
I sell stock fish! I mean it, you should buy from me. I sell strictly cod stock fish, you would love it. I supply to supermarket eateries and of course homes. It's called "odawai stock fish” named after my late mum. Odawai was her maiden name 😊. I watch movies and read that's basically how I relax
Which part of the world would you like to visit and why?
The Bahamas...just chill look at the sea. Something different.
What unique thing do you plan to do this year?
Maybe go check out some caves in in the middle of an ocean somewhere in the world. Something breathtaking 😊 but with this pandemic I think I will try next yr.!
I played the role of Nse MALAFA in unbroken. Nse was a troubled woman. Damaged and bipolar. It was all about her mental health and her relationship with her son Nafike. That's one role I enjoyed playing. It was something different
Any Award(s) at the moment?
No awards yet....but am hopeful.
What advice do you have for upcoming actors?
My advice is love it, pursue it with everything in you, when it gets tough because it will you have to get tougher. Avoid short cuts it doesn't improve you.
Cheers!
