-IN HER QUEST TO LEARN MORE ABOUT AFRICAN CULTURE, SHE DISCOVERED THE MIRACLE TREE OF SHEA BUTTER AND STARTED A SKIN & HAIR CARE LINE CALLED SHEABUTTA BABE- MOCHA BROWN
WHO IS MOCHA BROWN AND WHERE IS SHE ORIGINALLY FROM?
MOCHA BROWN

I like to think of myself as a really cool
intellectual being who loves life and discovering all its treasures. Hip Hop is
my oasis, my inspiration and healer at times. I am Hip Hop essentially. I love
the culture and I strive to help keep it pure, fun and positive.
HOW WAS YOUR
GROWING UP LIKE?
MOCHA BROWN
|
I grew up in the south mainly then lived some years in Hawaii.
We were a military family. I was very creative as a child. I actually wanted to
be a dancer for most of my childhood and would win talent shows dancing to
Janet Jackson songs or Heavy D songs. I drew pictures and wrote stories. I was
really active as a kid and loved the water.
LIVING AMONG WHITES, WHAT HAS BEEN
YOUR GREATEST CHALLENGE(S) SO FAR?
Assimilation is one of my
least favorite words and being forced to do it tears at my soul daily. It is
necessary in the US for success or even just a chance on the playing field, but
at a high price if you’re pushed to completely “sell out” and forget your
roots. Being afraid of being shot by police at a traffic stop is at the top of
my list these days though.
TIKAR FESTIVAL,
TELL US ABOUT IT AND WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACHIEVE WITH THIS CONCEPT?
This is something I’m
super passionate about. It’s the celebration of DNA tested descendants of
Cameroon. The Tikar Festival of the Returned will be held from June 15, 2019
–July15 2019. It is the 5th annual festival. There will be many
commemorative moments to be had throughout the duration of the Tikar Festival.
Though I’m not the Festival’s founder, I’m closely involved in the background.
The spirit of the festival is all about reconnection…To our roots, our people
and our land. Please check out the website for more details.

WHAT'S BEEN THE GREATEST CHALLENGE SO
FAR PUTTING THIS TOGETHER?
TELL US WHAT YOU KNOW
ABOUT THE AFRICAN CULTURE AND TRADITION, PEOPLE, PLACES AND LIFESTYLE
GENERALLY?
I know a bit. Tikar is
like a blanket term used for several ethnic groups in Cameroon. They use it to
identify people of the culture. There’s one single ethnic group called the
Tikar in the Tikar Plain in Adamawa Region also. I’m no Guru, I
don’t know all there is to know about African culture yet. I’m reading, and
always learning daily. My focus is on awareness always and bringing this
information to people who are not aware. In my quest to learn more about
African culture, I discovered the miracle plant of Shea Butter and started a
skin& hair care line called sheabuttababe, com. I’m learning about Africa
more and more daily through various avenues and Diaspora groups.
WHAT'S
THAT ONE THING YOU THINK SHOULD BE IMPROVED UPON IN AFRICA?
Laws and civil rights! The poverty level and extremely disproportionate availability of clean drinking water in some regions still perplexes me.

US ABOUT YOURSELF AS A RADIO HOST AND HOW IT HAS IMPACTED YOUR LIFE?
|

As a host and
contributor for “A Moment In Hip Hop” I feel I have a responsibility to inform
and uplift our audience and community. I don’t take it for granted; it’s been a
blessing and an honor to work in radio.
