My name is Ezinna Orji ,Zizi as all my friends calls me, I was born and brought up in Lagos state but hail from Umuahia in Abia state in Nigeria. I am a community development practitioner and I also organize events.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR GREATEST CHALLENGE AS AN AFRICAN WOMAN?

My challenges as an African woman is the limited opportunities given to women in all areas of life, a sense of purpose and success in whatever endeavors a woman thinks are most important in her life; depictions of women that still emphasis sexuality and stereotypical femininity; good provision for the care if children.

YOU STUDIED PHYSICAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION IN LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY (LASU) WHAT CAN YOU SAY IS THE MAJOR CHALLENGE THE WORLD IS FACING TALKING ABOUT THE HEALTH SECTOR AND YOU CAN ALSO NARROW IT TO AFRICA(NIGERIA)?

I am a graduate of physical and health education from the university of Lagos and the major challenges in the health sectors if narrowed down to Africa and Nigeria to be precise is lack of medication and fake drugs imported into the country, inexperienced doctors, ill trained nurses, lack of funding, lack of good hygiene, medical facilities, tools, empathy.

HOW CAN IT BE IMPROVED UPON?

The health matters can be improved by people turning to primary health care system, the government investing more in health care projects to assist the people to access all health facilities.

SO MANY VILLAGES AND COMMUNITIES IN AFRICA STILL DO NOT HAVE CLEAN WATER IN THIS JET WORLD WHAT'S YOUR TAKE ON THAT?

The main problems with water is shortages of clean water and water borne diseases and this is due to growing population and expanding of agricultural, industrialization which has boosted demand for water ,while drought,overuse and pollution have all decreased supplies..if wells are dug in rural areas and they take care if the sanitation of the fields there could be improvement .

NOW YOU ARE OPPORTUNE TO WORK OR DO OTHER COMMUNITY PROJECT IN SOME APART OF THE WORLD WHAT CAN YOU SAY IS MISSING IN OUR OWN COMMUNITY( WHAT ARE THEY DOING RIGHT)?

The most important thing I noticed in community projects abroad that brings about development and change is there is equality and there is a good communication with people t the top with the community at large, the links are well structured that if a problem arises there is a prompt response. Everybody is given an opportunity to have a say in issues concerning their community the voice of the people is always heard and I think that's what is lacking in Nigeria the high class syndrome which is not practiced in the Western world.

TELL US ABOUT THE CULTURE AND TRADITION OF YOUR PLACE OF BIRTH?

Basically I hail from the eastern part of Nigeria but was brought up in the west my parents comes from the east and west so I grew up with understanding two vast cultures which is a bit different from each other and might be too much to explain.

WHAT ARE THOSE FAMILY VALUES YOU GROW UP WITH THAT HELPED YOU IN BECOMING WHO YOU ARE TODAY AND YOU NO LONGER SEE AMONG OUR YOUTHS?

My family values growing up was very intense, morals, respect, believes, dos and fonts but in this time and age one would want to bring up children in a way they follow your footsteps or created their own path with your supervision of course which is teaching them honesty,truth,kindness,integrity,acceptance, fairness,compassion, perseverance and so on.

HOW CAN WE ENSURE THAT OUR VALUES, CULTURE AND TRADITIONS ARE NOT COMPLETELY LOST DUE TO FOREIGN CULTURE RAMPAGING OUR SOCIETY?

In order not to completely loose the values,culture and tradition that I was raised with I tend to show my kids the little beginnings through video,pictures and dramas and teach them how it got me to where I am at the moment and also install in than the fear of the superior being who is God in what ever they do, they actually have a choice but if these little lessons are taught to them I believe the outcome will be positive

TELL US ABOUT YOUR EVENT COMPANY?

I run an event management project here in Glasgow Scotland basically this is to bring people together to share diverse cultures ,learn other peoples food,dress,dance it is a kind of mixer and different people take part in most of the events we do like Christmas balls,valentine balls,independence anniversary, carnivals pg different kinds. This events crests opportunity for people to learn from each other and exchange ideas and also created an avenue for people to live and co habit in peace that is our major goal.
